Join Lamya Gargash and Sophie Kazan for a talk on The Art of Presence and Being Alserkal Avenue.
Alserkal Art Week
24 November 2024
5pm
The Yard, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai
As part of Alserkal Art Week, Lamya Gargash and art historian Sophie Kazan reflect on the development of contemporary art in the UAE, the artist’s own practice and ‘behind the scenes’ of her latest exhibition, Kun, which is now at Maraya Art Center in Sharjah. They will discuss the notion of spirituality and tradition in art, and how photography creates spaces and explores identity.
This Alserkal Art Week is centered around the theme Acts of Presence, exploring the power of connection through art in a world that often divides. Through exhibitions, public art commissions, conversations, workshops, and slow art walks, the programme celebrates the simple, fleeting, yet revolutionary act of being present.
On the occasion of the talk Sophie Kazan’s book ‘The Development of An Art History in the UAE’ published by Anthem Press, will be available The Third Line Shop
The book delves into the evolution of art history in the United Arab Emirates through the work of local artists, interviews and first-hand accounts.
